Humans of Tompkins Square

Project Description:
Every day I walk through Tompkins Square Park on my way to and from class. I am enamored by the people from all walks of life that I pass as I stroll through the park. I always see someone new, and sometimes a familiar face or two.

Often times New York can feel isolating, despite being constantly surrounded by people. The goal of this project was to break down the boundaries that separate us by simply asking strangers, "would you mind if I take your picture?" Each time, the conversation organically grew and I found out an interesting tid-bit about each of my subjects. For example, Delphine decorates hats for all of her friends, and Eric is an aspiring actor.

Another goal of the project was to capture each individual's essence typographically. Each expression of the font is meant to portray how I interpreted their unique personalities.

All images shot on my iPhone.
